About the Author:

S M Mukherji, Ex-Professor Emeritus, Department of Chemistry, M.D. University, Rohtak, was awarded the D.Sc., degree by

Calcutta University in 1944. He was the co-discoverer of the Colonge Mukherji Cyclialkylation Reaction. He had served as Head

of the Department of Organic Chemistry at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Calcutta and University

Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry, Punjab and Kurukshetra Universities. He was the President of the Indian

Chemical Society and had about 100 research papers to his credit.

S P Singh, Professor Emeritus, Kurukshetra University obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Lucknow in 1964. He

has been teaching in Kurukshetra University since 1965 and has served as Chairman of the Department of Chemistry from

1989–1992. He has published more than 150 research papers in different areas of Organic Chemistry. Prof. Singh was also

associated with the University of Illinois at Chicago as post-doctor fellow (1968–70), Senior Fullbright Scholar (1979–1980)

and visiting Research Professor (1989). During his several trips to Universities in Europe, he has established professional

collaboration with many leading scientists. Prof. Singh was elected as the General Secretary (outstn) of the Indian Science

Congress Association (2004–2007). Among many awards received by Prof. Singh are Acharya P.C. Ray Memorial Medal (1994)

and Lifetime Achievement Award of the Indian Chemical Society (2003).

As Nodal person of the U.G.C. Curriculum Development Committee in chemistry, Prof. Singh has led a team of eminent

chemists to draft the model syllabus for the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in 2001. Before that he was the Convener of

the U.G.C. Panel in Chemistry (1997–2000).

R P Kapoor, Professor Emeritus and Coordinator, Guru Gobind Singh College of Pharmacy, Yamuna Nagar got his Ph.D. degree

from Agra University, Agra in 1963. After a brief stint of teaching at Agra College, Agra (1963–1964) he joined the faculty as

Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra in 1964 where he worked till 1997. He was Chairman of the Department of Chemistry from

1993–1996. In 1997 he joined Guru Nanak Khalsa Post Graduate College, Yamuna Nagar as Visiting Professor to establish a new

centre of M.Sc. Industrial Chemistry (Pharmaceuticals), where he worked till 2005. He has published more than 70 research

papers covering various aspects of Organic Chemistry, i.e., reaction mechanism, medicinal chemistry and synthetic organic

chemistry in national and international journals.

Rameshwar Dass, Lecturer Selection Grade, Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Yamuna Nagar obtained his Ph.D. degree from

Kurukshetra University in 2005. He is teaching P.G. classes since 1997. He has published more than 35 research papers in

international journals. He has supervised one Ph.D. and six M.Phil. students. His current research interests include analytical
