प्रारम्भिक अर्हकारी परीक्षा (PET) के अन्तर्गत अभ्यर्थी के सामान्य ज्ञान व समसामयिक विषय, हिन्दी भाषा, तार्किक क्षमता एवं सामान्य गणित का परीक्षण किया जाएगा । प्रारम्भिक अर्हकारी परीक्षा में आवेदकों की परसेंटाइल के आधार पर अंक प्रदान किए जाएंगें । अभ्यर्थी द्वारा प्रारम्भिक अर्हकारी परीक्षा में प्राप्त अंक अगले तीन वर्षों तक मान्य होगें । अभ्यर्थी के पास यह विकल्प उपलब्ध रहेगा कि वह प्रारम्भिक अर्हकारी परीक्षा में प्राप्त अंकों को सुधारने हेतु पुनः परीक्षा में प्रतिभाग कर सकें और इसकी कोई अधिकतम सीमा नहीं होगी । प्रारंभिक अर्हकारी परीक्षा में उच्चतम अंक प्राप्त करने वाले अभ्यर्थियों को उच्च स्तर की मुख्य परीक्षा / कौशल परीक्षा एवं शारीरिक दक्षता में भाग लेने की अनुमति होगी । मुख्य परीक्षा हेतु विषय एवं पाठ्यक्रम का निर्धारण संबंधित विभाग के परामर्श के उपरांत किया जाएगा ।
