About the Author:

Dr Sheila John, MPhil, PhD, is currently working as Vice Principal, Women's Christian College, Chennai, India. She is also Associate Professor and Head of the PG Department of Home Science in the same institution. She is a member of the Indian Dietetic Association and Home Science Association of India. She was a visiting scholar at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, USA, and has also received outstanding grade for completing all requirements for individual study and tutorial from the Department of Food and Nutrition, North Dakota State University, USA. She has presented a poster at the 6th Pan Asian Initiative on Service Learning and 2nd Asia-Pacific Regional Conference at Lingnan University, Hong Kong. Dr John has published two books and has been a contributing author to four books. She has published 83 research articles in national journals and 21 research articles in international journals and has presented 29 research papers in proceedings at national and international conferences and organized national seminars and conferences. She is a recognized supervisor for PhD and has successfully guided six students. She is also a member of the Research Advisory Committee for PhD research at various universities. (Late) Dr Jasmine Devaselvam, MPhil, PhD, was Assistant Professor in the Department of Home Science, Women's Christian College, Chennai, India. She had more than 20 years of research and teaching experience. She presented papers and posters in several international and national conferences and seminars. She also presented a research paper at the International Medical and Health Congress 2007 at University of Malaysia. She published a number of papers in national/international journals and conference proceedings. Her research interests included functional foods and nutraceuticals for health promotion and disease prevention. She had done extensive research on the perspectives of health professionals on foods that promote health and had also developed a database on functional foods to be used by health professionals. She was conferred with several awards and prizes like the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold medal, the Daisy Cornelius Prize, the Miss Vatsala Pai Prize, Mrs. Alamelu Srinivasan Memorial Prize, Dr. Eleanor Mason Endowment Prize, and Weikfield Food Trophy.
