Description - This book is meant to be a textbook for undergraduate, postgraduate and research students of Physics and Chemistry. It can also be used as a textbook for first year engineering students. The book includes Theories of Phase Transitions alongwith their Range of Validity. Topics such as Chemical Equilibrium and Saha lonization formula have also been included in the book. A chapter on Basic Concepts of Probability has been included which is of auxiliary nature and may be omitted by those who are acquainted with the Theory of Probability. An attempt has been made to emphasize the physical basis of the subject, but without undue neglect of its mathematical aspects. The book thus bridges the gap between highly mathematical works and the usual less rigorous formulations of the subject. Problems are given at the end of each chapter which are meant to be read as integral part of the text. These involve a number of applications and also serve to highlight techniques. Two important Appendices of Useful Functions and Volume of a Hypersphere have been added in third edition. Binomial Distribution Table has been included in Fourth Edition as Appendix F.
About the Author :
D Roy Choudhury was a Professor and Head, Electronics and Computer Engineering Department, Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi. He was also Dean, Faculty of Technology, Delhi University, Delhi. He has taught courses in linear integrated circuits, computers, networks and control systems both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His special interests include control engineering, artificial neural networks and petri nets. He received his MTech degree in Radiophysics and Electronics from the Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics, University of Calcutta in 1966 and PhD from the same university in 1971. From 1971 to 1973, he was associated with the Institute de Reglage Automatique EPFL, Switzerland. He has been with the Delhi College of Engineering since 1974 where he also served as the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Recently he was on a visiting assignment at Oakland University, USA. Dr. Roy Choudhury is also the author of Networks and Systems. Shail Bala Jain obtained MTech in Electronics and Communication from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 1970 and PhD in the field of digital signal processing from Delhi University. From 1971 till Oct. 2002 she was in the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Delhi College of Engineering, teaching courses in electronics, linear integrated circuits, digital signal processing at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. From 2002 till 2012, she was Professor and Head, Electronics & Communication Engineering Department, Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, GGSIP University. From 2012 till Dec. 2015, she worked as the Advisor (Academic Affairs) at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, IGDTUW. Her field of interest lies in digital signal processing and neural networks. She is life fellow of IETE and a senior member of IEEE.
