Vyasa's Mahabharatam | By Bharadvaja Sarma | First Edition | Academic Publication ( English Medium ).
Summary of the Book :
Eons ago, two families contested for the throne to a massive empire. The eldest ruler, Dhritarashtra, was born blind, and deemed unable to rule the Kuru Empire. His younger brother, Pandu, afflicted with a skin condition which made his skin pale, was assumed to be next in line, but Pandu had a weak body. The line quivered under the lack of proper heirs, and then, the two kings were married. Pandu’s wives gave him five sons, while Dhritarashtra’s wife Gandhari, gave him one hundred sons. When these boys came of age, they began to quarrel over the throne, and their childish quarrels turned their eyes towards war. Forever greedy, the one hundred Kauravas were never satisfied with a mere portion of what they felt was their rightful throne, and they went to lengths to kill their cousins. However, not all was lost to the Pandavas for they were no mere sons of mortals, but sons to the Gods themselves. And on their side was a man that prophecy and religion called the Avatar of Narayana himself: Krishna, the Blue One. In this abridged book-by-book modern translation of the great Indian Epic, readers will find answers to many of life’s questions as others have before them in time immemorial. The Mahabharatam is one of the greatest epics mankind has ever written, and it encompasses the message of truth, glory and divine duty of all mankind.
